Interview with the Maker: Butter Me Up
Artisan: Lorraine and Michael Delizia, Butter Me Up
1. What is your name and how did you decide on your business name?
Our business is Butter Me Up - Gourmet Flavored Butter. We actually came up with a few different names and this was the one that stuck!
2. What inspired you to create your product?
Every year for our nephew’s birthday we get him a monthly subscription to a different product. In the past, we signed him up for coffee of the month and candy of the month, but the next year he put in a special request with us for a butter of the month. After researching, we found there was no such thing. After months of requests and joking about it we decided to give it a try. We made three flavors and started a Facebook page and by the next day we had four orders and Butter Me Up was born!
3. Which of your products most inspires other people?
What I think inspires others with our butters is that it makes a bad cook a better cook. It adds just the right amount of flavor and uniqueness to compliment any dish. And most of all, it offers easy options for great meals!
4. How do you find time to balance your craft with other areas of your life?
With any business, the balancing act is tough. But if you love what you do, like we do, you’re ahead of the challenge. The two of us run the business together which makes the balancing act a little easier. We always make sure we carve out time for our family.
5. Name one tool or product that is most helpful to you as a small business owner.
No matter how you slice it, networking is the best tool out there. As a small business owner, if you aren’t making new connections every day, you are at a great disadvantage. There have been so many times that knowing and working with the right people has pushed us ahead!
6. Where do you see your business going in 2020?
We are preparing to amp up the volume of our production this year and are focused on getting our products into more retail stores.
7. What is something you hope to get out of the Marketspace platform this year?
As with any event we do, we hope to make the events we attend more enjoyable for fellow vendors and customers alike. In person markets help get our product out to a broader market.
8. Anything new we can do for or offer you?
Keep us in the loop for other events and continue to market our product!
Thanks so much, Lorraine and Michael. We can’t wait to replenish our stock of gourmet butter at Crafts and Drafts at Lone Eagle Brewing on March 29th!
